By: AbilityFirst “We are so pleased that Mayor Mensinger helped us bring local awareness to AbilityFirst’ The AbilityFirst Newport Mesa Center offers After School enrichment programs for children with developmental disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and epilepsy. The center serves the cities of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach and their surrounding communities. Established in 1999, the program helps participants reach their personal best in the areas of communication, basic life skills, socialization and healthy living. The AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll is a fun yearly fundraiser involving nearly two thousand participants from AbilityFirst’ Last year, over 1,700 people and 24 southern California businesses participated, raising $680,000. This year AbilityFirst expects to surpass that record setting amount. Each year AbilityFirst needs to raise more funds due to increased participation in their programs and fulfilling the needs of people with disabilities. There are various ways to participate in the 2015 Stroll & Roll, from individuals walking or running by themselves and getting friends and colleagues involved, organizing fundraising teams at businesses, to volunteering.
