COSTA MESA, Calif. - Feb. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- AbilityFirst Newport Mesa Center in Costa Mesa kicked-off its local Stroll & Roll Fundraising Campaign with the help of Costa Mesa Mayor Stephen Mensinger. It was a special day for the Center’s participants, as well as friends and family members.

“We are so pleased that Mayor Mensinger helped us bring local awareness to AbilityFirst’s primary fundraising campaign for 2015,” said AbilityFirst CEO Lori Gangemi. “This year’s overall goal for our Stroll & Roll fundraiser is to raise $750,000.  This will fund the multitude of programs we provide for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities at our 25 locations throughout Southern California, including our center in Costa Mesa.”

The AbilityFirst Newport Mesa Center offers After School enrichment programs for children with developmental disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and epilepsy. The center serves the cities of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach and their surrounding communities. Established in 1999, the program helps participants reach their personal best in the areas of communication, basic life skills, socialization and healthy living.

The AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll is a fun yearly fundraiser involving nearly two thousand participants from AbilityFirst’s 25 locations and numerous Southland businesses.  Participants run, walk, roll and stroll through the Universal Studios Hollywood legendary behind-the-scenes backlot. They enjoy viewing the many movie studio sets on the lot, meeting Universal Studios’ many celebrity characters, shopping at the AbilityFirst expo, relaxing in the expo’s beer garden, and spending the morning among friends.

Last year, over 1,700 people and 24 southern California businesses participated, raising $680,000.  This year AbilityFirst expects to surpass that record setting amount.  Each year AbilityFirst needs to raise more funds due to increased participation in their programs and fulfilling the needs of people with disabilities.

There are various ways to participate in the 2015 Stroll & Roll, from individuals walking or running by themselves and getting friends and colleagues involved, organizing fundraising teams at businesses, to volunteering.
