West Sound Academy presents Winter Comedy: Neil Simon's Rumors

POULSBO, Wash. - Feb. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Laugh til you cry with Neil Simon’s Rumors!  West Sound Academy continues their theatre season with this elegant farce.  Charley and Myra Brock are celebrating their 10th anniversary and have invited all their good friends. Chris and Ken Gorman, a legal couple, are the first ones to arrive. They show up only to find that Myra is missing and Charley has “accidentally” shot himself in the ear. Charley is unconscious and so unable to tell them what happened. Charley is the deputy Mayor of New York City and, hoping to avoid a scandal, Ken and Chris go about covering up what they assume to be the truth of the situation. As the rest of the guests arrive — Claire and Len Ganz, Ernie and Cookie Cusack, and Cassie and Glenn Cooper — the story of Charley and Myra’s anniversary evening gone awry grows and develops. In the end all the guests are complicit in a cover-up that no one even really understands, but the fantastical events of the evening are hilarious and give a rich basis for great characters doing what Neil Simon does best – making the mundane…insane!

Veteran performer Joey Schmitt ‘16 plays Ken Gorman with Karin Knighton ’15 play his wife Chris Gorman, lawyers by day and frantic friends by night.   Annika Nelson ‘18 returns to the stage as the country club gossip queen Cassie Ganz with Sam Phillips ’16 playing her gossip-hating husband Lenny Ganz. Muhammet Ozcan ’15 and Hailey Hunter ‘15 as Ernie and Cookie Cusack, a psychiatrist and his food network star wife.  Rounding out the cast are Ben Silvernale ‘17 as Glenn Cooper, an ambitious politician and Angie Mead ’16 as Cassie Cooper, his trophy wife.

Gretchen Nordleaf-Nelson, directs her second production for West Sound Academy with the student leadership of stage manager Megan Hall ‘16, and the Lighting/Scenic design by Ben Taylor ’16.

The production of Rumors will be performed at the Olympic College Theatre (15th Street at Ohio Avenue, Bremerton WA) March 6 and 7, 2015, curtain at 7:30 PM. Admission is $5 for students and senior citizens - $10 for adults.  For more information and reservations contact Gretchen Nordleaf-Nelson at (360) 598-5954.  This promises to be a wonderful evening of theatre.
