Japanese Markets at 15yr Highs - 19th February 2015

As most of the Asian markets are closed for Chinese Lunar New Year, Japanese markets are looking to close at close to 15yr highs.

The Nikkei 225 is set to close at levels not seen since 2000 and the recent rally has yet to see a top.

With weak oil prices and rising exports due to a stronger dollar the Japanese economy managed to pull itself out of recession officially this week. The huge stimulus scheme employed by the Bank of Japan has started to show some success.

Exports in January rose at their fastest rate since 2013 and this has been the case for the last few months.

A strong Dollar is always a benefit for Japan, driving exports and notably finance and transport services of late.

Data on the trade deficit would have had a beneficial effect on the markets as well. Figures released showed that the deficit had almost halved over the same period last year. Now just 1.2tn Yen it has fallen from 2.8tn Yen in 2014.

As Japan battles its aging population and growing social welfare costs the program implemented by Prime Minister Abe is starting to show signs of working. Abernomics is proving it has its place.

Nikkei 225 - 18,260.29 - +0.34%
