metaphacts and Systap announce joint venture agreement

metaphacts and Systap announce joint venture agreement to develop portfolio for large scale knowledge graph management

WALLDORF, Germany - Feb. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- metaphacts GmbH, a Germany-based provider of software and services for creating and managing large scale knowledge graphs, and Systap, LLC, a provider of highly scalable database solutions for big graphs, today announced a joint venture to develop innovative solutions for large scale graph management and deliver an open platform for the development of custom graph-based applications.

metaphacts and Systap have joined forces to simplify the access to Systap's graph database solutions and bring the power of knowledge graphs closer to data experts and data scientists, as well as end users. The partners are aiming at delivering a highly scalable platform for developing new applications for areas such as business, finance, life sciences, cultural heritage and more. The platform will tightly integrate Systap’s graph database and graph analytics solutions and will be available for both local and cloud-based deployments to expedite the on-boarding of new customers.

Targeting both organizations that want to create their own knowledge graphs, as well as organizations with existing large graphs, the solution delivers powerful features for collaborative knowledge graph management and graph analytics. Data experts can use the platform for data integration and transformation, collaborative data curation and annotation, data enrichment, semantic search, and visualization and exploration. Data scientists benefit from features such as built-in data-science workflows, easy integration of data from any source, and interactive visualization and exploration.

Mobile and augmented reality scenarios will also be covered in future by the joint platform. Targeting end users, the platform captures user context, identifies relevant information in the knowledge graph, and seamlessly and proactively delivers interesting content.

Beyond technical integration activities, metaphacts and Systap are also collaborating in business development activities aiming at strengthening Systap's presence in the European market and developing new, joint use cases which exploit the unique capabilities delivered by Systap products.

metaphacts appoints new CTO to support joint venture

To support this joint venture, metaphacts has appointed Dr. Michael Schmidt to the role of chief technology officer, effective January 1, 2015. Schmidt brings experience and profound expertise in the areas of semantic technologies and graph databases, information systems and cloud computing. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Freiburg, where he conducted extensive research in the area of semantic databases and efficient data processing. Prior to joining metaphacts, Schmidt has served as research manager at IMC AG and research and development architect at fluid Operations AG.

"metaphacts helps customers to extract value out of their data, offering end-to-end solutions based on emerging, innovative ideas, technologies, and standards. With many years of experience in the semantic data management field and as product manager, I am looking forward to designing and developing novel groundbreaking semantic technology services and applications at metaphacts." said Schmidt. "The partnership with Systap is essential, as it provides us with access to leading graph database management technology as a basis for service and application development. In turn, we will help Systap to further integrate and optimize their products, and bring them closer to application developers – a win-win situation!", he continued.

"As we strive to establish our solutions on the market, we depend on technology leaders such as Michael to bring in a focus on innovation combined with a proven background delivering customer-focused, high-quality products," added Dr. Peter Haase, chief executive officer at metaphacts. "I am pleased and excited to welcome Michael to our team in the role of CTO, and look forward to a productive collaboration for years to come."

About SYSTAP

SYSTAP was founded with vision of building highly scalable software solutions for big graphs. Graph problems have very different computational workloads and scaling requirements than conventional big data challenges. Our software and GPU solutions help customers get right the architecture, the software, and the hardware to achieve scaling and high throughput for graph traversal and graph mining. SYSTAP's Blazgraph platform is a market leader and supports both Semantic Web (RDF/SPARQL) and Graph Database (tinkerpop, blueprints, vertex-centric) APIs. It features robust, scalable, fault-tolerant, enterprise-class storage and query and high-availability with online backup, failover and self-healing. Blazegraph powers many high profile enterprise applications for customers including EMC, AutoDesk, and Yahoo!7, finance, pharmaceuticals, and bioinformatics. SYSTAP's MapGraph™ is a new and disruptive technology for organizations that need to process large graphs in near-real time using GPU technology. SYSTAP has demonstrated MapGraph™ achieving performance 10,000X faster than other CPU-based technologies on data-parallel graph analytics.

SYSTAP provides support, services, and commercial licensing for its big graph technologies. For more information, please contact us at sales@systap.com or www.systap.com
