SANTA FE, N.M. - Feb. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- PARK CITY, UT – Max Hatt / Edda Glass performed “two mesmerizing sets of their cinematic folk-jazz songs,” wrote Erik Philbrook in ASCAP’s Playback Magazine. At the heart of this year's Sundance Film Fest, ASCAP's Music Café was packed and hushed as the duo played songs off their self-titled debut, to be released this month, along with selections from their next album, to be produced by Pat Sansone of Autumn Defense and Wilco. As an official Sundance venue, the Café is specially curated by ASCAP to showcase emerging and established artists. Max Hatt / Edda Glass's appearance on the Café stage was the result of winning the national 2014 NewSong Competition, whose prize also includes appearances on NPR Mountain Stage and at Lincoln Center, and an EP to be recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC.

“We were particularly excited to go to Sundance,” says Hatt. “We’re both very inspired by the movies.” Glass, lyricist of the duo, explains: “Max’s melodies are so cinematic that I often see the songs before I get around to the words.” Their experience at Sundance more than lived up to expectations. “The room had the most wonderful vibe,” says Glass of the Café. “The audience was so open and ready to connect with the performers. To create a space for that, and do it 17 years running, says a lot about what ASCAP is trying to do, and how they think music should be valued in the digital age, or any age. It’s also proof of the vitality of live music and the appetite of audiences.”

The experience of the Café also reinforced the intimate connection between music and film, according to Hatt. “To have music at the very heart of a film festival says something about the key role that music plays in the movies and the insight of the planners and organizers.“ As ASCAP Assistant Vice President and Sundance ASCAP Music Café producer Loretta Muñoz commented, “Every great film needs music. For 17 years now, Sundance and ASCAP have celebrated the marriage of sound and vision at the Sundance ASCAP Music Café. If you are a filmmaker seeking the perfect music for your next perfect project, stop by the Café to hear some of your favorite songwriters and composers, and discover some new ones. The Café is your connection to great music at the Sundance Film Festival.”

Featured performers at the 17th annual Sundance ASCAP Music Café included: Baskery, The Belle Brigade, Leon Bridges, Chris Carpenter, Civil Twilight, CMA Songwriter Spotlight (Jessi Alexander, Brandon Lay, Kelley Lovelace & Neil Thrasher), Andrew Dost of fun. (from the film The D-Train), The Duchess and the Fox (ft.
