By: Many Hat Productions “We were particularly excited to go to Sundance,” says Hatt. “We’re both very inspired by the movies.” Glass, lyricist of the duo, explains: “Max’s melodies are so cinematic that I often see the songs before I get around to the words.” Their experience at Sundance more than lived up to expectations. “The room had the most wonderful vibe,” says Glass of the Café. “The audience was so open and ready to connect with the performers. To create a space for that, and do it 17 years running, says a lot about what ASCAP is trying to do, and how they think music should be valued in the digital age, or any age. It’s also proof of the vitality of live music and the appetite of audiences.” The experience of the Café also reinforced the intimate connection between music and film, according to Hatt. “To have music at the very heart of a film festival says something about the key role that music plays in the movies and the insight of the planners and organizers.“ Featured performers at the 17th annual Sundance ASCAP Music Café included: Baskery, The Belle Brigade, Leon Bridges, Chris Carpenter, Civil Twilight, CMA Songwriter Spotlight (Jessi Alexander, Brandon Lay, Kelley Lovelace & Neil Thrasher), Andrew Dost of fun. (from the film The D-Train), The Duchess and the Fox (ft. Joe McGinty and Andrea Diaz), The Family Crest, John Fullbright, Dylan Gardner, Max Hatt / Edda Glass, Tess Henley, Hollow Wood, Jamestown Revival, Mosco Rosco, O.A.R. (ft. Marc Roberge and Richard On), the one and only PPL MVR, Rainey Qualley, The Relationship (ft. Brian Bell of Weezer), Seafret, Lindsey Stirling, Allen Stone, and Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. End
