Promote Social Responsibility With The Y

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. - Feb. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Orange County, CA –  The YMCA of Orange County is highlighting Social Responsibility this week as part of its Annual Campaign to raise money for scholarships for local children and families. Last year, charitable gifts from donors made it possible for the YMCA of Orange County to serve over 60,000 people with over 1 million dollars in contributions.

Alexis C. is the parent of Joseph, who is part of the YMCA’s New Horizons program for adults with disabilities. “Adults with developmental disabilities typically go through life feeling isolated and alone. There are not a lot of programs available that offer the types of experiences and events that New Horizons offers. Joseph has been able to participate in many activities that he may not have had the opportunity to take part in if it were not for this program. He has had many fond memories over the years and has made some great friends along the way. It’s not easy for him to always reach out or open up to new environments and situations, but New Horizons has given him the bridge to do that. Overall, this program has given, not only Joseph, but all the participants a way to socialize and interact in a positive and safe environment.”

This year, the YMCA of Orange County hopes to raise $634,000 to help children and families like Alexis & Joseph. All funds raised will directly support scholarships and financial aid for our neighbors in need for programs like New Horizons, Bereaved Parents Support Group, and Inclusion, which helps children with disabilities get social and academic help.

Afterschool Care: $60,304 raised out of $130,000

Fullerton Family YMCA: $19,766 raised out of $80,000

Laguna Niguel Family YMCA: $64,553 raised out of $115,000

Mission Viejo Family YMCA: $70,930 raised out of $110,000

Newport-Mesa Family YMCA: $33,020 raised out of $120,000

Santa Ana Family YMCA: $7,147 raised out of $30,000

YMCA Community Services: $14,850 raised out of $19,000

Yorba Linda/Placentia YMCA: $4,648 raised out of $30,000
