Topbulb Releases Household LED Light Bulb Buyers' Guide

As LED bulbs have become mainstream, consumers are being forced to make a rocky transition to the new language of lighting. Topbulb's new LED buyers' guide walks consumers through replacing older light bulbs with new tech.

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. - Feb. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Topbulb, an industry leader in household and specialty lighting products, recently unveiled an in-depth, detailed buyers' guide for household LED bulbs. With consumers swiftly making the switch from incandescent and CFL to LED, terms like "lumens" and "color temperature" have replaced older, familiar terms like "watts."

"Because of how quickly the industry has moved over the last decade, putting together a comprehensive LED buyers' guide was a bit of a moving target," stated Andrew Shebath, Business Systems and Operations Manager of Topbulb. "But now, the time is finally right for consumers to take a hard look at LEDs when replacing light bulbs in their home. But switching from old tech to new can be a confusing process." The LED buyer's guide is located on the Topbulb blog at (http://www.topbulb.com/blog/step-step-buy-led-bulb-home) and is free for anyone.

The year 2014 was a banner year for LED lamp shipments, according to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). This is mainly due to the US government's phasing out of 60 watt incandescent bulbs, the most common type of light bulb found in homes. Consumers have passed by CFL in favor of LED and, to a lesser extent, halogen bulbs.

"While LED lamps still have a relatively low market share overall," remarked Shebath, "their growth over the last year has been phenomenal and will only continue increasing. Traditional bulbs may last for only a year or two before burning out, where switching to LED is an energy-efficient long-term investment for households and businesses."

The US Energy Information Administration, in a report released in November 2014, explores the average efficiency of LED bulbs, and notes that they will keep getting more efficient. That, along with the decreasing cost to purchase LED versions of common light bulbs, makes a buyers' guide even more essential for prospective buyers.

Topbulb's step-by-step guide walks buyers through several different types of bulbs and their applications. The types of LED bulbs include A-lamps, PARs, BRs, and MR types, and whether they are dimmable or not. Visit http://www.topbulb.com/led to see all the types of LEDs Topbulb carries. The applications range from table and floor lamps, to pendants, to recessed can lights, to floods, spots, and accents. These are some of the most common applications of lighting in residential buildings, and LED replacements exist for nearly all traditional lamps.
