ABOUT SANKOFA - THE MONTCLAIR AFRICAN AMERICAN GENEALOGY MEETUP GROUP (http://www.meetup.com/ The Group was founded April 19, 2010. Sankofa brings together a group of people who love family history but may not have had the time or the encouragement to explore it. “Sankofa” is a Ghanian word meaning “to go back and reclaim the past.” At the meetups, members are encouraged to “go back and learn from the legacy of past generations in order to guide their future and that of their descendants.” ABOUT THE CALDWELL FAMILY HISTORY CENTER The Caldwell Family History Center is a free community service that connects individuals to their ancestors. It is one of only a handful of FREE genealogical libraries across the State of New Jersey and serves the communities of Caldwell, North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Roseland, Essex Fells, Verona, Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Belleville, Nutley, West Orange, Little Falls, Totowa, Lincoln Park, Wayne, Fairfield, Towaco, Montville, Pine Brook, Woodland Park (West Patterson), Clifton, Livingston, and Parsippany. The Family History Center offers free services including: One-on-one or group training in online family history research Film readers and computer services with free online access to the world's largest genealogical library Training with online services of FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com Access, in the Caldwell Family History Center, to over 2,500 microfilms Additional microfilms can be rented, for a nominal fee, from FamilySearch.org/ The Family History Center is hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is open as a regional resource to the public.
