VET-FEE Help Explained- Job Support Australia

For those not aware, VET FEE HELP is a funding program that allows students to effectively take out a loan with the Federal Government to help pay their tuition fees.

Feb. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- VET-FEE HELP has been operating since 2009 and has allowed thousands of education hungry students to access VET-FEE Help via an approved training provider such as an RTO – which stands for Registered Training Organisation.

What does that mean?
This helpful government initiative is available for Diploma level qualifications as well as a number Certificate IV qualifications, both of which JSA can facilitate if you find the paperwork daunting.

At the moment a student can borrow as much as $97,728 over the lifetime of their academic career. The important thing to remember about VET-FEE HELP is that your loan is eventually repaid through the Australian Taxation System only when your wages have risen above the current threshold, which for 2014-15 will be $53,345.00.

Paying back your VET-FEE HELP loan is simple and cost effective for someone who may not have the means to pay the entirety of their course fees upfront, – a luxury few can afford in this day and age. This widens the scope of who can access quality education in Australia and is especially beneficial for citizens looking to up skill.

The great thing about VET-FEE HELP is that it provides you with the option of either deferring all of your tuition fees or, if you can, pay some of your tuition fees upfront and defer the balance.

So am I eligible?

You’ll be eligible for VET-FEE HELP if you:

Are an Australian citizen or a permanent humanitarian visa holder (that just means you’re a resident in Australia for the duration of the unit); AND

Are a full fee paying/ fee for service student studying either a diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate or graduate diploma level course at any approved VET FEE-HELP provider AND

Have not exceeded the VET-FEE HELP limit (for most students this is $97,728) AND

Have a tax file number, which you obtain, from the Australian Taxation Office.

Don’t have one? Simply provide a Certification of Application for a TFN, which you can also obtain from the tax office.

VET-FEE HELP summary: you must be a full fee paying Australian citizen that hasn’t exceeded the limit and have a tax file number. Easy.
