There was standing room only at a recent event to pay tribute to Rev. Daughtry. The church was packed with Black notables including  the Rev. Al Sharpton; television host and spiritual leader Iyanla Vanzant; and Assemblyman Charles Barron.

One name often overlooked in the discussion of Black History and the Civil rights struggle is the Rev. Doctor Herbert Daughtry Sr. Daughtry's long career of activism began with the civil rights struggles in the 1950s working with Brooklyn CORE, youth in action, and Operation Breadbasket, the economic arm of Martin Luther King, Jr's Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). His involvement continued during the fight for community control of schools in the late 1960s.

Rev. Daughtry became a major force in organizing the coalition of Concerned Leaders and Citizens after the killing of Randolph Evans, a teen killed by a NYC police officer. His efforts resulted in the establishment of the Randolph Evans Memorial Scholarship.Rev. Daughtry served as National Chairman of the National Black United Front from 1980 to 1986. The organization contained representatives from thirty five states and Fivedifferent countries.

Daughtry also served as Jesse Jackson's special assistant and confidant and a member of Jackson 's national campaign committee.During Jackson's 1984 presidental campaign

During the Clinton Administration Rev. Daughtry was among a select group of religious leaders from across the United States to be invited to meet with the President at periodic breakfasts held at the White House.

Reverend Daughtry helped organize and lead a March 2003 multifaith, multiracial delegation to Iraq in search of peace.Currently, Daughtry serves as national presiding minister of the House of the Lord Churches and chairman of the Downtown Brooklyn Neighborhood Alliance.

Reverend Daughtry has lectured at Harvard University School of Divinity, the Union Theological Seminary, and the New York Theological Seminary. Rev. Daughtry has received honorary docotorate degrees from Seton Hall University and the State University Of New York, College Of Old Westbury.
