Completely Avoidable Food Recalls Predicted to Continue into 2015

Feb. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- The trend of food recalls will likely continue in 2015. Chelsey Davis, TraceGains’ Digital Specialist reported on more concerning cases, “California Snack Foods Inc. of South El Monte, CA, issued a voluntary recall of California Snack Foods brand caramel apples with a best use by date between August 15 and November 28, 2014, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

Davis reported in the company blog that food manufacturers are sharing successful corrective actions. At the upcoming (March 2015) BRC Food Safety Americas 2015 Summit, Andrew Clarke, Director of Certification and Audit, Food Safety, Maple Leaf Foods will share experience in the development, implementation, and management of food safety and quality management systems across a range of food product categories. Additionally, Dr. Purnendu C. Vasavada, Ph. D., will share involvement in the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) – a broad-based public-private alliance consisting of key industry, academia, and government stakeholders designed to help food industry comply with the Preventive Controls regulations for implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

1.1 million pounds of pretzel dogs were recalled because an undeclared allergen prompted action. E. coli concerns prompted ground beef recall and products were sold in Wal-Mart stores in Canada. Finally ADM sued Syngenta over stewardship of G.M.O. corn. (The case relates to China rejecting U.S. corn because of commingling with G.M.O. corn that China has not approved.)
