LAS VEGAS - Feb. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- Las Vegas, (NV February 11, 2015) – PR Connections is excited to announce this week’s guest, Founder and President of the Miracle League of Las Vegas Tim McGarry. He will talk with Guy Dawson about the organization, which helps kids and adults with physical and/or cognitive challenges the opportunity to play baseball, Wed February 11 at 1:00 PM on KLAV 1230AM or klav1230am.com.

The Miracle League is a national organization that offers children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball. It started in 1997 with one child and now has national and international locations. Over 250 Miracle League organizations operate all over the world including leagues in Puerto Rico, Canada, and Australia. These organizations run independently, with support from the national organization. McGarry is happy to talk about the Miracle League on PR Connections.

“I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to sharing with the KLAV listeners how the Miracle League of Las Vegas enriches the lives of special needs children and adults in the greater Las Vegas community through the game of baseball,” said McGarry.

The Miracle League of Las Vegas was founded in 2009 with the first "official game" played on April 10, 2010. The Las Vegas league is unique from most other leagues throughout the country in that it has as many adult players as youth players. The league has tripled in size with 185 players today. Players must be at least 3 years of age to join the league and there is no adult age limit.

When participants join, they sign up for more than baseball. They also join for the fun and social aspects. The Las Vegas league supports its participants with wonderful events.

One event is the Annual Awards Banquet. At this event, the players receive participation medals for that season and also receive a unique gift, their own customized baseball card. The baseball card has their picture, name and fun facts about them such as their favorite food, nicknames and hobbies.

Participants can play during the fall and spring seasons. Each season runs for eight weeks. Games occur each Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. The games last two innings and every player gets a hit, with each game ending in a tie.  A favorite part of game days is the famous "chicken dance" performed by players, volunteers, and fans between innings.

There also are “Buddies” that assist the players. Buddies help to ensure the players safety and accompany them throughout the entire game. The Miracle of Las Vegas League currently has a base of 400 volunteers. Many of the Buddies are community youth baseball teams and service organizations that return every season, experiencing as much joy and reward as the participants.

Games are held at the Miracle League Engelstad Family Park located on the campus of the First Christian Church/Disciples of Christ.

Tim helped create the organization by chance. In 2004 he watched a segment of HBO Sports about kids with special needs playing baseball on a modified field in Georgia. McGarry began to research creating a league here in Las Vegas. Interestingly enough, another man named Sal Cordaro had the same idea. Tim and Sal were put in touch with each other by the Miracle League National  coordinator and the rest is history.
