Glen Heffernan’s 3 Ways for Basketball Players to Get Their Head in the Game

CHICAGO - Feb. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- Glen Heffernan knows that athletes, especially those in their teens preparing to try out for the collegiate level or perhaps even higher ranked like professional sports teams, can benefit from having certain guidelines in their routine. Any athlete that has an upcoming championship or career-making game or tryout coming up should try out the following routine of these 3 steps in order to have their most focused performance yet.

1.      Deep Breathing, Meditation and other relaxation techniques are all something every athlete should do before their game. Although players often want to do their best, practice is the time when running drills or focusing on the mechanics behind the moves is done. Worrying about or spending time doing these things too much before the game can really mess with a player’s head. Take at least 20 minutes to get all thoughts cleared out of the clutter, and take deep breaths in and out. Meditation is truly something that allows athletes to relax their mind to have their best performances.

2.      Don’t Dwell: It’s important to remember that no one is perfect. Glen Heffernan reminds athletes that even those in the professional field of their respective sports don’t always get the chance to make every game their best. Even the top athletes in their field end up missing more than half the shots they take. Don’t dwell on something that doesn’t go as planned, something Glen Heffernan warns can damage a performance. Getting down after missing a shot and focusing on those feelings may cause an athlete to keep on missing afterwards throughout the night because they are no longer focused on their game. Getting rid of these major roadblocks or whatever type of fear that is standing in the way will make for a much better game.
