The International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) is excited to launch the first International OMS Day on February 13, 2015. This event has been founded to raise awareness and share the role that oral and maxillofacial surgeons play in healthcare on a global scale, and to celebrate the impact that oral and maxillofacial surgeons have on individual lives on a daily basis. “This day is important because overall increased understanding and impact of the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty (professional relevance and impact on overall quality of life) will help advance oms-related healthcare policy and ultimately improve individual access to care worldwide,” said Piet Haers, IAOMS President. “The nature of our specialty should strive to become relevant and affordable to establish its usefulness to people globally. That way we can make someone smile and feel normal and give the most special gift: happiness. I dare say that [this is] really [what] makes us and our patients feel very special ̶ that is what justifies our existence. Isn't that certainly something worth celebrating!” # # # # About the IAOMS: The International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) is the only global professional association dedicated to improve the quality and safety of health care worldwide through the advancement of patient care, education and research in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
