Houston Area Artist Gather to Support Suicide Prevention

AFSP-Greater Houston partners with L.O.U.D. Muzik and the Esperson Gallery at GreenStreet to host party with a purpose.

HOUSTON - Feb. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Houston, TX: Saturday, February 21, 2015. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy as well as to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.  According to AFSP, close to 700,000 people will make a suicide attempt requiring medical care and more than 38,000 will die by suicide in the U.S. every year.  The organization, and its network of chapters across the country, is working diligently to reduce the rate of suicide by 20% within ten years.  #20X2025. On Saturday, February 21, 2015, the Greater Houston Area Chapter of AFSP is partnering with L.O.U.D. Muzik and the Esperson Gallery at GreenStreet to host a gathering of talented Houston-area artists to raise awareness and raise funds for this important cause.

Spend the evening with L.O.U.D. Muzik’s, DeAndre Wright (http://www.deandrewright.com/), as she presents a dynamic performance of her latest project, Dedicated. Soulful, quirky, fresh, and vibrant have all been words used to describe this unique songstress. She’s a force to be reckoned with on stage and describes her live performances as “liberating.” Audience members hang on to every lyric she sings and characterize her voice as being simply beautiful. You will be blown away by amazing works from Houston-area artists like Gonzo247 (http://www.aerosolwarfare.com/) and Willy Gardiner (http://www.willygardiner.com/)!

Tickets for this event are $20 per person.  All donations and proceeds from this event will be donated to AFSP Greater Houston.  By participating in or donating to this event, you help to support:

Educating teens about depression.  AFSP has a new educational film More than Sad: Teen Depression which is being distributed to high schools across the country

Research that will improve the identification and treatment of those at highest risk for suicide.

Programs for Survivors of Suicide including the annual International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day Program linked to over 300 locations throughout U.S. and internationally.

Public Awareness Campaigns that alert families and friends to warning signs, encourage help seeking behavior and reduce stigmas about mental illness and suicide.
