Alfonso Freeman Gets Magical at Fresh Air: A Broadway Benefit in Long Beach

Alfonso Freeman will perform "Friend Like Me" (the Genie's Song) from Aladdin at Fresh Air: A Broadway Benefit, 2/22 at 2. The event will raise funds for Art-In-Relation as well as the Long Beach Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Feb. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Alfonso Rene Freeman enjoys a prolific career in stage, film and television.  Theatrically, he owned the stage in St. Louis Shakespeare’s critically acclaimed production of OTHELLO.  Alfonso also starred in The Boys Next Door, I’m Not Rapport, and Zoo Story.  In musical theatre Alfonso has played, among others, Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls, the Padre in Man of LaMancha, and Ralph Rackstraw in H.M.S. Pinafore.  His numerous television credits include, The West Wing, The Practice, and Providence, and his film credits include the award winning indies The Retrieval and Life of a King, and a co-starring turn in Rob Reiner’s The Bucket List.  Alfonso is also a sought after Commercial and Voice actor, with spots airing for Hanes, Chex Mix, and now as the venerable voice of the Uncle Ben's products.  Alfonso is excited to return to musical theatre where he got his start.

From IMdB: Alfonso was born at County General hospital in Los Angeles, September 13, 1959 to Morgan Freeman (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000151?ref_=nmbio_mbio) and Loletha Adkins (Polk) and grew up in Compton, California. He briefly attended Cal State University-Long Beach as an Art Major. Alfonso did not meet his famous father in person until 1984, when he came to L.A. to film the TV mini-series The Atlanta Child Murders (1985). Their first conversation was during a phone call in 1979 while Alfonso was working as a telemarketer.

Freeman will join a large group of talented performers for a special, one-day event.  Art-In-Relation (AIR), a new non-profit Long Beach based Arts Organization will be holding its first fundraising event on Sunday, February 22, 2015 beginning at 2 p.m. at Ernest Borgnine Theatre in Long Beach. The event is called "Fresh A.I.R. – a Broadway Benefit."

The event will feature dozens of actors, actresses, dancers, singers and musicians performing works from Broadway and focusing on productions that Art-In-Relation will fully produce in 2015 and 2016.

Performances will include solo, small ensemble and large ensemble numbers from shows such as: "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Matilda," "Blood Brothers," "Les Miserables," "Chess The Musical," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Spamalot," "Forever Plaid," "Pirates of Penzance" and more.

Proceeds benefit Art-In-Relation and The Long Beach Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center.

Tickets are $60 per person or $500 per table that seats ten (a $100 savings) which includes a dinner buffet served in the Scottish Rite banquet hall house following the performance, in the same building with the Ernest Borgnine Theatre, located at: 855 Elm Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90813.

The schedule is as follows: 1:30 p.m., preshow reception with drinks in the President's Room (near the theatre entrance on the second floor of the Scottish Rite Event Center). 2 p.m. performance in the Ernest Borgnine Theatre, 4 p.m. Dinner served in the Banquet Room with live music.
