Follow on Google News |  Russ Dugger Gears Up for His Final Race at DaytonaWith car livery and sponsor lists finalized, all that remains is to drive the #80 TANDA Racing Chevrolet in the ARCA Racing Series Presented by Menard's Lucas Oil 200 on Saturday, February 14th, 2015.
Dugger has made no secret - in private conversations and public appearances where he's made speeches to transfixed audiences - that it is his intention to leave a positive and lasting mark on the world; a legacy if you will. He has gone out of his way to partner with local and national charities at every step on the ladder of his professional racing career, eager to bring exposure to them as his way of making a difference. In that regard, this race is no different. Both Dugger and the Tanda Racing Team that he'll represent at his farewall race share a passion for promoting racing as a family activity. The words "Promoting Youth In Motorsport" will feature prominently on the car, as a reminder to all that there is no better recreational activity for children in a 21st century world where STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) "There's no doubt that STEM skills are crucial for young people, and racing is the best way to get seeds of interest in those subjects planted early," says Dugger. "Racing is unlike anything else for teaching these skills. It all becomes tangible. I've seen it with kids who have raced out here. When they study these subjects later in school, it all just clicks." Most weekends during the warmer months, you'll find Dugger and the Tanda Racing Team at kart racing tracks such as JRP Speedway in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they compete with the Tulsa Kart Club. You'll see he and the crew coaching and mentoring kids from the age of 5 on up - even those who race for other teams. Their excitement is contagious, and they hope other families will come out to visit with them and get involved themselves. Knowing that this race will almost certainly be his last at the professional level, it was crucial that his parents finally be able to watch him in-person at the famed superspeedway. "I really can't put into words how much this means to me, having my family there - especially my parents - knowing they'll be right there as soon as I step out of the car," said Dugger. When the green flag drops on the field though, Dugger's visor will be down and eyes focused behind the wheel of the #80 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, the sharp red white and blue paint job shining on the car fielded by Gosselin-Finney Racing, with his long-time friend and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion crew chief Mario Gosselin on the radio. As the cars enter the high banks of turns 3 and 4 on that first lap, throttles wide open and speed continuing to build, the compression he'll feel in the seat will serve as a sharp reminder that the race is on. For a few more fast, final hours, the only thing that will matter will be to finish.
