Her dedication to caring for people needing food and shelter, students needing mentoring and her passion for promoting arts and culture are just a few of the ways Carmen has impacted Charlotte. “Carmen Hilton has been the engine of the international community for years. She works tirelessly for the benefit of our community. She is the volunteer extraordinaire. Charlotte wouldn’t be the same without Carmen and her never ending energy and passion for our city.” Carlos Sanchez, External Affairs Director, AT&T NC LAWA isn’t the only organization that has benefitted from Mrs. Hilton’s talents. Over the last two decades, Carmen has served as a volunteer with Assistance League of Charlotte, International House, Mint Museum, Latin American Coalition, Charlotte Sister Cities, Spirit Square Center of Arts and Education, CareRing and others. These organizations and the city of Charlotte wouldn’t be the same without Carmen’s influence. LAWA is a non-profit organization based in Charlotte that was established in 1992 with the mission to advance education and quality of life for Latino youth and their families in the Charlotte area. Through scholarships, academic and cultural programs, LAWA supports students from elementary school through college.
