Trichloroethylene & Exposure Risks Discussed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational production about important environmental, health & safety (EHS) issues.

PHOENIX - Feb. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video.  Their newest production discusses the volatile organic compound (VOC) known as trichloroethylene (TCE).

TCE is not thought to occur naturally in the environment, but it can be released into the air, water and soil at places where it is produced, used or disposed of.  Although TCE breaks down rather quickly in air, it breaks down slowly in soil and water and has been found in underground water sources and many surface waters.

“TCE has been used mainly as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts and has also been used in some adhesives, paint removers and spot removers,” said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network.  “People can be exposed to TCE through inhalation, ingestion and dermal exposure.  The air in homes and buildings can even become contaminated with TCE that has migrated from contaminated soil and groundwater to the indoors through such things as cracks in a foundation in a process known as vapor intrusion. We hope this new video helps to shed some light on TCE and exposure risks in the home, workplace and from other potentially contaminated environments.”

This educational video was sponsored by a number of organizations and leading industry professionals that work to protect the public’s health. Sponsors include: EMSL Analytical, LA Testing, Clark Seif Clark, Zimmetry Environmental, Indoor Environmental Consultants, Hudson Douglas Public Adjusters, Healthy Indoors Magazine, Maine Indoor Air Quality Council and the 2015 Northeast IAQ & Energy Conference to name just a few.
