By: Vikki Hankins Media, LLC Through her three richly-animated, children's books, Dr. Chanda Nicole Holsey addresses issues surrounding deployment and children. Further, she has earned a Doctor of Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health, and a Master of Public Health degree in Behavioral Sciences/Health Education. As a military wife, Dr. Holsey is all too familiar with the challenges associated with maintaining the family structure during her husband’s deployment. Her books are three books specifically designed to comfort children and educate parents on practical measures to maintain the family uint during deployment: *SAVVIE SUNSHINE, Will You Remember Daddy When I am Out to Sea? A Salute to All Navy Dads *PRECIOUS PETE, Will You Remember Me, When I Am Out At Sea? A Salute to All Navy Dads *Someone in the Marines Loves MIH (Me)! According to research there are approximately 2 million military children (USA), ranging in ages from newborn to 18 years old; 1.3 million military children are school-aged. When a parent is deployed, oftentimes children are left confused, hurting, and feel a sense of abandonment. Through her books, Dr. Holsey aids in preparing a child for the absence of a parent, and aids in maintaining the strength of the family during deployment. A perfect example of such, is within her book entitled, SAVVIE SUNSHINE, Will You Remember Daddy When I am Out to Sea? A Salute to All Navy Dads. Throughout the rich-colored, animated pages, both father and child are comforted with knowing they will ‘remember’ Coping with physical and emotional distance, while keeping family bonds intact, can be overwhelming. However, including one another in daily thoughts and actions, family members can maintain strong bonds; Dr. Chanda Holsey guides military families through the process in a way that's easy for children to comprehend. In addition to her writings, Dr. Chanda Nicole Holsey is the founder of Healthy Aims for Little Ones and Families (HALO for Families). Further, she has planned, implemented, and evaluated health promotion programs for the American Lung Association, Morehouse School of Medicine, Georgia Department of Community Health, and Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Science and Health Education from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and a Doctor of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Holsey is married to Petty Officer Eric Demond Holsey of the U.S. Navy, and is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Savannah Nicole and Erin Morgan. She has a passionate fervor for serving young children, the indigent and the underserved. Her personal motto is to "walk with wisdom”.
