Mom and Daughter Team Are a Phenomenon

They have become known to Locals as the place to bring that piece that Gramma said never sell because it is worth so much – and they will let you know if Gramma was telling the truth or not.  It is interesting to see what someone thinks has value and to hear the stories that are attached to items that have been passed down – most of them, usually untrue and embellished -  The Mart is chaotic and exciting.      There are bins and often truck fulls,  coming through the front door – Renee and Jess sifting through the items – and retail customers looking to find their treasures.    The staff is busy helping customers and putting items on the sales floor from  that last load that came in.  The phone is always ringing –as more bins come in. The women, with their great personalities are a pleasure to talk with and Jessica always has time to take a selfie!

The 12,000 sq ft warehouse is full of entire collections that have been entrusted for the women to sell.  There is everything from recycled, upcycled painted furniture to Victorian pieces.   The cases are loaded with high end china, crystal and figurines as well as the kitschy mid-century atomic age items that is now a craze.  It is a place like no other!

Another part of their business  is when the gals set  up an estate sale, which is done  when someone has passed and the family has hired them to empty out all the personal property left in the home.  That means everything!  Pots and pans, spices in cabinets, clothes, sentimental knick-knacks and kitchen items as well as the more expensive furniture, sterling, and china.   Unexpected treasures have been found and the girls find unusuals such as false teeth!  The teeth do get sold if they have gold in them!   Both gals are germaphobes and touching false teeth  even with gold in them,  is a challenge – and hand sanitizer is kept close.

Estate Sale items, brought to the store or set up on-site are a true and emotional look at people's lives;  as well as the hope and greed we all have inside of us.   Its never fun telling people that item that belonged to Gramma that has been schlepped along with every move has little value.    On the flip side, it’s so much fun to find the item that someone is ready to discard thinking it has no value  and actually does!   And oh, you should see the hand sanitizer  come out and the dirty looks these two can create when  the items come in dirty and greasy are priceless.
