MICRODIA’s Micro USB Type-C OTG on the Market Pulse as Computing Giant’s Adoption Sparks Tsunami Ripples

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Feb. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- USB Type-C standard adopted by a computing conglomerate has sent tidal-wave murmurs through commercial entities and consumers. However, already prepared for the USB Type-C standard implementation ahead of the market is the recently-launched MICRODIA USB Type C flash-drive-reader combo, the OTG FDR, which connects the current USB standard to the new USB Type-C one.

USA, January 28, 2015 – MICRODIA Ltd. (MICRODIA)’s recently released USB Type-C  On-The-Go (OTG) Flash Drive and Reader (FDR) is the world’s first device to provide unlimited flash memory storage capabilities, and USB connectivity between the current USB Standard A or Standard B and the new USB Type-C ports.

This dual-ended OTG device provides users with a convenient and simple method to bridge devices. One end is a current-standard USB connector. The other end is built to USB Type-C specifications. The FDR’s micro USB is reversible. Users are able to plug in the connector upside down or the right way up.

A prestigious computer giant is also predicted to be adopting the USB Type-C standard in its new laptop slated to hit markets later this year according to an insider article and news reports. This translates into a push for the adoption of the USB Type-C technology amongst consumers.

Further adoption drivers include the increasingly-ubiquitous thinner and lighter form-factors of mobile devices, as evidenced by the introduction and uptake of tablets and smart phones that are 6mm thin or less, and as thin as 4.85mm, respectively. Such devices require a USB port and complementary connector that are 3mm thin or less. The new USB Type-C standard fits this requirement. The port and matching connector are at most approximately 3mm thin.

Thanks to the unique design of the connector pins’ positions, the size and space needed for the USB Type-C connector is greatly reduced. Pins are mounted on the upper and lower sides of a board. In turn, this board is vertically aligned in the middle of a rounded-end rectangle connector shell.

Apart from the positioning, and number of, connector pins used, USB3.1 provides speeds up to 10Gbps. Consequently, transfer times for large files, images, videos and huge data become negligible.

“We are seeing thinner and lighter form-factors in mobile devices of all types,” said Mr. Louis Leung, CEO of MICRODIA Ltd. “Part of this is possible due to the removal of the current USB Standard A and Standard B ports. However, there still remains a plethora of devices that require a USB port; this is the domain of the UBS Type-C standard. With the growing adoption of this standard, it is essential that memory storage devices and peripherals offer consumers a total solution to spanning platform gaps without employing an extra adapter.”
