Community Care College Hosts First Annual Business Plan Competition

TULSA, Okla. - Feb. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Community Care College, Clary Sage College, and Oklahoma Technical College will host their first annual business plan competition— Opportunity Knox on July 14th, 2015. Competitors will move through three rounds, with the final competition held on September 22nd.  Eligible competitors include current students, recent graduates, as well as any alumni of the colleges who have received a diploma. The colleges are working in conjunction with Tulsa SCORE to provide free mentorship to each competitor. Local business men and women will also serve as judges for the competition, which boasts over $8,000 in prizes.

Participants will complete their business plans in stages and present them to the community leaders acting as judges. The judges will determine which business plans qualify to move forward to the next round, and the best business plan will be awarded $5,000.  Individuals can also compete in the following categories: Best Promotional Strategy, Best Customer Relationship Management Process, and Most Effective Financial Provisions. Each category will award one finalist $1,000. Participants who are eliminated in earlier rounds will also be eligible to compete for the “Audience Favorite” award of $500.

On Tuesday, May 19th at 7pm the first informational session will be held at Community Care College. At that time, applications will be distributed with a deadline of June 2nd.  From that point, selected competitors will be paired with their mentor and moved through the three rounds of the competition.

The event’s director, Business Program Instructor Katie Barnett considers the competition a rare chance to jumpstart a business idea.

“Many people have dreams that they never see realized, because they do not know how to take the first step,” instructor Barnett said.

“This competition is a launching pad for dreams. For those who have been on the fence about getting their degree, the free mentoring, cash prizes, and valuable experience is a huge opportunity for making those dreams a reality.”
