Follow on Google News | Protecting The Trumpeter Swans From Extinction By Madeline HombertBy: Madeline Hombert About: Photo by: Klaus Peters. By the turn of the 20th century there were less than 100 Trumpeter Swans known to be living in the area of Yellowstone Park in the USA. In 1917-18 the hunting of swans supposedly ended but in 1935 there were only 69 found inland. Efforts by locals in the area of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada resulted in protected nesting areas and by 1975 - a dedicated labour of forty years - there were over 5000 of these magnificent birds. In 1996 they were declared "not at risk" and in 2014 the Trumpeter Swans were removed from the Province of Alberta's threatened list. We have beautiful photographs of the swans beginning with the mating dance, sitting on nests, cygnets hatching and taking their first dip into water and swan families enjoying both fields and skies. We also have included a few historic archived photos from the albums of some of the Alberta families who helped the swans survive. Our book is a very important tool for showing children and adults how conservation can change the course of a species. This is a coffee table size book, 8.5 x 11 inches, high gloss, heavy paper with superb photography. The professional photographers have deferred their payments in order to get the project to the point of publishing, subject to funding. We need your help to get this completed so we may place these books in libraries, schools and tourism offices. We have pledged a donation of $2.00 from every book printed to the American head office of the Trumpeter Swan Society and their former Executive Director, John Cornely, has provided the foreword as a sign of their support for the project. We need $40,000 in place very shortly to be able to complete the writing, editing and subsequent printing to have the books ready and delivered by Christmas 2015. With Just 12 days left in this campaign, your support is urgently needed! Please look at all the rewards they have for those who make a contribution. Please consider getting involved, at whatever level you can, and help “Protecting the TRUMPETER SWANS from extinction” get funded! We need your help: If you can't afford to donate, don't worry - there are plenty of other ways you can help. Please take some time to share our campaign across your social networks and encourage your friends and family to donate. For more information, contact us on: madeline@ End
