MAIZE, Kan. - Feb. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- MAIZE, Kan. – Many antiques in about as many collecting categories gathered over the years by Jim “Jimmy” Heffernan of Texas will be sold without reserve (no minimums, everything goes) on Saturday, Feb. 21, by Woody Auction, at the Maize Recreation Center in Maize, Kansas (a suburb of Wichita). The address is 10100 Grady Ave. The auction will begin at 9:30 a.m. CST.

This will actually be the second time Woody Auction has conducted a sale for Mr. Heffernan. “He came to us with a treasure trove of antique items about ten years ago and we sold pretty much everything, but no sooner had that sale ended than he began collecting again and here we are,” said Jason Woody of Woody Auction. “The man’s an incurable collector, what can I say.”

The auction will be dedicated entirely to Heffernan’s collection (478 lots) and nothing else. One of the last items to be sold will be a display case, made specifically for displaying umbrellas, walking sticks and canes, with spaces for 100 items. The case, 48 inches by 34 inches and with a mirror back and curved glass top that lifts for easy access, is filled with 30 collectible pieces.

They are a mix of umbrellas, canes and walking sticks, with highlights featuring a Sevres porcelain handle, embossed rolled gold handles, sterling silver handles and more. The display case was made by Showcase & Store Fixture Works of Kansas City, Mo. A separate lot will consist of three vintage umbrellas with ornate embossed gold and mother of pearl handles.

Certain to draw attention is a rare Noritake two-part punch bowl set with 12 pedestal cups, pink and white with a peacock scenic décor and nice gold trim. The set shows the Noritake green wreath mark and the bowl measures 9 inches by 13 inches. Also sold will be a Carnival Glass Northwood ruffled bowl, bright electric blue with a ribbed exterior and peacock on fence scene.

Lamps and lighting will feature a six-inch fairy lamp with pink diamond quilted mother of pearl shade set on a clear base that in turn is set in a Meriden silverplate holder; an American Brilliant Cut Glass table lamp with mushroom shade and pinwheel, hobstar, strawberry diamond and fan motif; and a reverse painted table lamp with a base marked “Miller” and a tropical décor shade.

A related lot is a pair of 11 ¾ inch tall Bohemian cranberry candle lustres with white overlay. Each luster features four children’s portraits alternating with floral medallions, all with gold stencil highlights. The music category boasts a Rock-Ola Model #1428 jukebox with working lights, in very nice condition; and a mechanical wind-up bird cage music box with good sound.

Clocks will feature a three-piece French clock set consisting of a black and green marble pillar clock marked Mougin, showing a lion and a serpent, with two matching side urns; and a walnut cased German regulator clock. Also sold will be a cast iron door stop of a Boston Terrier, with fair paint; and a Roseville Art Pottery two-handled vase with blue tones, in the Waverly pattern.

Other noteworthy lots include a 9 ½ inch pickle caster with cranberry opalescent daisy and fern insert, set on a Webster silverplate frame; an 11 ½ inch R. S. Prussia tankard with green and yellow tones and a pink poppy décor; a rare 11 ½ inch Wavecrest scroll mold wall plaque, blue and white with a daisy décor and set in an elaborate gilt metal frame; and an 8 ¾ inch marked KPM German oval porcelain plaque showing a portrait of a young Arab woman, in a gilt frame.

A preview will be held at the event venue in Maize on Friday, Feb. 20, from 4-6 p.m. The most convenient lodging is at the Holiday Inn Express, located directly across the street from the auction building.
