Covenant House California And Junior League Of Los Angeles Team Up To Assist Homeless Youth

LOS ANGELES - Feb. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- (LOS ANGELES, CA) – Employment for a homeless youth is one of the first steps toward independence. On Thursday, January 29th, to help with this step,  Covenant House California (http://www.covenanthousecalifornia.org/) (CHC) and the Junior League of Los Angeles (http://www.jlla.org/) (JLLA)  hosted a Job-Readiness Workshop for homeless and at-risk youth entitled “New Year, New You.”

More than 25 volunteers from the JLLA participated in the event which included guest speakers, human resources specialists and industry professionals doing workgroups, performing mock interviews, and helping with goal setting.  Breakout sessions were also held so that each youth could connect individually with each volunteer. Approximately 50 youth attended the event which took place on the Covenant House California campus.

“It was a lot of fun, “said Edgar, a CHC youth who was participating. “It makes me feel really good that all these people come here and spend time with us.  We feel important.”

“It’s a blessing to have the Junior League of Los Angeles involved at CHC, “ said Noel Russell,  CHC’s Community Outreach Coordinator.  “They bring light and energy to the campus by connecting our youth with young professionals who are compassionate and engaging. We are honored to have JJLA as a part of our community here at CHC.”
