COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Feb. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- The documentary, Shadows of Liberty, will make its first appearance in Colorado Springs on February 12 as part of the KCMJ World Radio Day Celebration. The film explores how the news media have changed as global conglomerates came to dominate the media landscape.

The celebration includes a Community Radio Lovers Reception with local music by Ryan Flores and The Hopeful Heroines. Following the film, a discussion of truth and democracy in the media will feature confirmed panelists Debra Brown, U.S. Outreach Coordinator for Shadows of Liberty; and Stephen Justino, Chair of Colorado Move To Amend. Other panelists will be announced as they are confirmed. The panel discussion will also be featured as a radio special on KCMJ in the weeks following the event.

Shadows of Liberty explores news censorship, cover-ups and corporate control in U.S. media. Filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay turned to renowned journalists, activists and academics to give insider accounts of a broken system. In a world where global conglomerates call the shots, the film makes the case for media reform and freedom of the press. According to Tremblay, “This film attempts to inspire change and accountability by championing the idea of an independent media where truth and integrity are the norm, and not the exception.”

This informative event on the eve before World Radio Day takes place at Stargazers Theatre and Event Center and is a fundraiser to benefit Colorado Springs’ new community radio station, KCMJ. Stargazers Theatre & Event Center has donated its space so KCMJ can bring this important conversation to the community. Advance ticketing is advised, at http://www.stargazerstheatre.com, at the Stargazers boxoffice, or at the Tim Gill Center for Public Media reception desk (315 E.
