ONTARIO, N.Y. - Feb. 2, 2015 - PRLog -- Harbec, Inc. (http://www.harbec.com) proudly announces that it has been awarded a 2014 Environmental Excellence award by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). The award ceremony took place at the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, SUNY Polytechnic Institute's NanoFab South Rotunda and Auditorium in Albany on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

According to the NYSDEC, the New York Environmental Excellence Awards recognize and give visibility to outstanding, innovative and sustainable projects or programs. Eligible applicants included businesses, educational institutions, not-for-profit organizations, facilities, government agencies (except DEC), and individuals implementing innovative, sustainable actions or working in creative partnership to improve and protect New York's environmental resources and contribute to a viable economy.

The NYSDEC press release (http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/100315.html) summarized Harbec’s innovative accomplishment well by stating, “Harbec Inc. is a custom injection molding and precision component part manufacturer that has transformed from an energy-dependent business losing ground competitively to a profitable innovator producing carbon-conscious components with verifiable carbon reductions. Harbec Inc. is a state and national environmental leader; they are one of only 14 world-wide manufacturers to achieve a platinum-level certification under Department of Energy's Superior Energy Performance™ (SEP) program. Harbec has reduced energy use and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by more than 50 percent which translates into an avoidance of almost 2,200 tons of CO2 emissions.”

The NYSDEC established the Environmental Excellence Award in 2004. Since then, DEC has recognized 60 organizations.

Bob Bechtold, President at Harbec noted, “We are honored to receive NYSDEC’s 2014 Environmental Excellence Award acknowledging our longstanding commitment to reduce carbon emissions and culminating in our achievement of Carbon Neutrality. We commend NYSDEC’s leadership and the Environmental Excellence program for continuing to magnify examples of environmental innovation throughout New York. The pursuit of economic growth and sustainable operations go hand in hand. In 2014 our business had one of its most successful years in its 37 year history. We continue to prove (and profit from the new business reality) that eliminating wastes such as carbon makes economic sense. In our experience, businesses that adopt eco-economic decision tools can achieve sustainable economic growth while dramatically reducing their footprint on the environment.”
