WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Feb. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- At the January 25, 2015 TV taping, Scotty Mathews received a pile driver from King Shane Williams. It was only the second pile driver that Mathews had taken in his 15+ year career and he hopes it was his last because he was knocked unconscious. On Friday, January 30, 2015, AML Officials met to determine if the pile driver should be banned from AML Wrestling. Scotty Mathews was a surprise guest at the meeting and read this statement:

"I just want to take the time to thank all the AML Fans and Staff that have expressed concern for my well being after being knocked unconscious after receiving a Pile Driver from Shane Williams during last Sunday's AML TV taping. At this time, I am thankful to report that I have been cleared to forgo the neck support (brace). It was only a precaution taken by the doctor who was initially concerned because of a previous neck injury from several years ago this incident could have caused irreversible damage. I appreciate the caution in which he approached the possibility that I may have re-injured my neck and, while there is still some soreness, there will be no foreseeable long term effects. Again, given the seriousness of a pre-existing injury only time will tell...but I am fully committed to AML Wrestling and its's fans and will continue to leave everything I have in the Ring each and every outing.

That being said I'd like to take this time to address the two issues at hand, one of which is the "banning of the Pile Driver from AML competition". As a trained professional, I understand the risks involved with my chosen profession and it is my job to master both the offense and defensive side of this sport. The short of it is that my goal is to pin or submit my opponent while sustaining the least amount of damage possible. I can proudly say that after 15 years, this is only the second time the Pile Driver has been successfully executed on me.

I said all that to say this. As professionals, we understand the implied risks involved in what we do. Through countless hours of training and dedication, we create our own individual "arsenal" to get the job done in the ring. If the governing body of AML Wrestling bans this move because of its dangerous nature, it would in fact create the same effect it is trying to eliminate, and that is the vulnerability of one of it's athletes. Despite my feelings about Shane Williams as a human being, I feel that taking the Pile Driver from his game plan that he has spent years perfecting is not the right thing to do."

Since Mathews personally asked AML Wrestling Officials not to ban the Pile Driver, the decision was made to continue to allow it but to monitor its use moving forward.

Founder and Promotor of AML Wrestling Tracy Myers said, "AML Wrestling officials were all in favor of banning the Pile Driver because it is extremely unsafe and potentially career ending. However, we decided to listen to Scotty Mathews and not ban it. At least not for now. Instead, we will continue to monitor its use and the injuries (if any) that come from it. If we continue to have serious injuries because of the Pile Driver, we will revisit the ban at a later date."

King Shane Williams, who uses the Pile Driver as his primary finisher, said, "AML Wrestling Officials made a wise decision by not banning the Pile Driver. If they know what's good for them, they will NEVER ban it." Williams had no other comments.
