On the final episode of season 1, Mike Finnegan and the crew at Hot Rod Garage built a 711ci 1,225 HP Sonny Leonard Race motor seen here http://youtu.be/mS5RvFT6r7g and It got me thinking, Is 1,225 HP too much?

In this day and age where everyone talks about gas mileage and hybrids, is it ridiculous for us car guys to keep building these massive gas gusslers? Should we focus on building HP with small cubes or with alternative fuels? Is electric and instant torque the future? I’m not sure, I will be the first to admit that I love massive over powered motors but I also like the idea of driving internal combustion engines for the rest of my life, and I can’t do that without oil. Is it our responsibility as car guys to tone it down a little so there is something left for the next generation? I honestly don’t know the answer. All I do know is that I love being a car guy and I love the community of fellow car guys I have met throughout my life and I will do anything I can to help pass this passion down to my children, even if that means building small motors. Please let me know what you guys think in the comments at http://motoringmaniac.com/1225-hp-much/
