Farm Share to Host Free Food Distribution Event in Pensacola, FL

In collaboration with Representative Mike Hill and Brownsville Assembly of God, nonprofit Farm Share is hosting a free food distribution event on January 30, 2015 in Pensacola, FL.

Families in need of food will be provided seasonal fresh produce on a first come, first served basis.

Farm Share is Florida’s only fresh produce program, which does not charge a fee or pass on costs to local community organizations, which support the hungry in their areas. In partnership with local groups and Florida farmers the nonprofit helps channel the freshest produce right to those that need it the most.

Quick Facts:

·       For every 100,000 pounds of tomatoes harvested 40,000 are wasted

·       In season 22,000 pounds of produce can be discarded every 40 minutes

·       30% of Florida children still need supplemental nutrition assistance

·       Every $1 donated to Farm Share delivers 10 pounds of nutritious food to those in need
