By: Keller Youth Association

KELLER, Texas - Jan. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Keller, TX – Close to 500 youth football players will show off their football skills hoping to be the next Tony Romo or Jason Witten as the Keller Youth Association (KYA) Football kicks off its Spring tackle season.

Spring 2015 tackle football registration is currently open to all Keller, North Fort Worth, and DFW area youth between 5 and 12 years of age not already in middle school.  Players may register online at KYAFootball.com until February 13th or in person at the KYA field house Thursday, January 29th, and Thursday, February 5th from 6:30pm to 8pm. On-site registrations will also be accepted during the grass drills at the Keller Sports Complex, Football Field #2 on two upcoming Saturdays, January 31st and February 7th.

Grass Drills are similar to a mini NLF combine. These drills require a player to participate in a 40-yard sprint and an agility course that includes, passing, receiving, tackling and footwork. Players are only required to exhibit their skills on one of the two upcoming Saturdays from 9am to 3pm.

Player registration fee is $170 and includes game jersey, pants, and helmet decal.  Players will be allocated to teams based on the coach’s draft throughout the weekend of February 14. All of our head coaches are NYSCA (National Alliance for Youth Sports) certified. Teams are allocated among divisions, which include Mite (ages 5-6), Bantam (ages 7-8), Sophomore (age 9), Junior (age 10) and Senior (age 11-12). The current KYA Football Spring registration numbers look strong but more nine year-old players are needed to round out the Sophomore division.

The Spring season includes an exciting array of six to eight games and a playoff Super Bowl Championship bracket. Practices begin the week of February 16 and are held within the Keller ISD school boundaries. Games will be played on Saturdays from 9am to 7pm at Keller Sports Complex and at local Keller High Schools.  The first game is scheduled for March 21 and ends with the Super Bowl Championship game on May 16.  All of the games are officiated by referees that are UIL certified.

When Super Bowl XLIX is played on Sunday, football doesn’t have to end. KYA’s Spring football is a great place to continue to enjoy the sport and allow players to continue to learn and grow in the sport.

“We believe we have one of the best Spring tackle youth football programs in North Texas.  Many players from all over DFW register to play at KYA in the Spring because we are one, of only a few, youth football leagues that offer tackle football in the Spring.  Spring football is also a great time for new players to learn tackle football.  I would like to invite anyone interested, or even curious about youth football, to come out to the grass drills over the next two weekends and learn more about KYA Football,” said KYA Football Commissioner, Garvin Fouts.
