February 7 Concert Celebrates Black History Month

School Sisters of St. Francis welcome Milwaukee Gospel vocal artist Rodney Cunningham

MILWAUKEE - Jan. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- In celebration of Black History Month, the School Sisters of St. Francis are pleased to announce “Keep On Doing Great Things,” a Gospel music concert featuring Milwaukee vocal artist Rodney Cunningham that will be held Saturday, February 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the congregation’s St. Joseph Chapel, 1501 S. Layton Blvd. (Greenfield Ave. at 27th St.), Milwaukee.

“Our international congregation of Catholic sisters has ministered for many decades in schools, parishes, and other organizations in service with the African American community,” said Donna O’Loughlin, the community’s Coordinator of Collaboration and Service. “This concert will celebrate that ministry during Black History Month, and will honor the creative contributions of African Americans.”

Mr. Cunningham is a Gospel music recording artist who has performed live with such well-known musicians as Paul Anka and Kenny Loggins. Through his CDs and dynamic live performances, he uses his gifts of singing and preaching to inspire his audiences with messages of faith.

The concert will begin with a brief ecumenical prayer service and conclude with a festive reception in St. Joseph Hall. The School Sisters of St. Francis will also display a photo documentary that spotlights the sisters’ ministries in the African American community throughout the United States. The sisters were instrumental members of the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, and continue to advocate for peace and empowerment of all people.

The concert and reception are free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the St. Joseph Center lot that is accessible on 29th and Orchard (Alexia Circle entrance). For more information, please contact Donna O’Loughlin at 414-385-5272 or doloughlin@sssf.org.
