Follow on Google News | CIHs Help Employers Comply with New OSHA Reporting RequirementsThe American Board of Industrial Hygiene® reminds workers and industry of the need to address health and safety hazards in the workplace.
By: American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) As of 2015, employers are now required to report all work-related fatalities within 8 hours and all in-patient hospitalizations, amputations and losses of an eye within 24 hours of finding out about an incident. Employers can make these reports via phone or with an online form available from the OSHA website. To help prevent workplace incidents from occurring in the first place, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) strongly encourages companies and institutions to look to the expertise of professionals who have earned the Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) certification. CIHs are skilled at anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling a wide range of health and safety hazards in the workplace. This comprehensive knowledge base can help companies maintain a safe and healthy workforce, avoid violations, reduce costly fines and minimize brand reputation issues, all while adhering to government reporting requirements, be they OSHA or someone else. “The CIH is the undisputed globally recognized gold standard for industrial hygiene certification,” ABIH has developed an online Public Roster search function for those in need of a CIH. This resource allows CIHs, including those in consulting roles, to be easily accessible to companies and organizations that require their expertise. To learn more about the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, the accredited CIH program or to locate a Certified Industrial Hygienist in a specific geographical region, please visit www.ABIH.org, email abih@ABIH.org or call (517) 321-2638. About the American Board of Industrial Hygiene Since 1960, ABIH, a not-for-profit corporation, has been the world's largest, premier organization for certifying professionals in the practice of industrial hygiene. ABIH is responsible for ensuring high-quality certification including education, experience, examination, certification maintenance and ethics enforcement. Currently, more than 6700 people are certified to use the CIH designation. End
