OADA Info and Networking Session at Ag Equipment Technology Conference

A special post-AETC, pre-Farm Machinery Show session on the development and importance of compatible data in agricultural information systems.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jan. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- This OADA meeting will be led by Purdue Professors Dennis Buckmaster and James Krogmeier, and OADA Project Lead Aaron Ault with insights from industry professionals. This session will include; overview of the OADA project, relationship to Ag Gateway, the release of real-world data exchange demos among OADA partners, and brainstorming discussions about both commercial and academic strategic projects in the coming year.

The Open Ag Data Alliance (http://openag.io) is an open source project designed to bring interoperability, security, and privacy to agricultural data through the design and implementation of open API’s, software libraries, and apps for securely handling ag data on behalf of farmers.

The event will be held February 10, 2015 in Louisville, KY after the Ag Equipment Technology Conference (AETC) and before the Louisville Farm Show at the Medallion Ballroom A/B at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel. It is co-sponsored by American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

The OADA community is building a set of open API’s for securely using data with the cloud. Anyone can use these API’s in their own cloud systems, and if they pass the same software tests as the open reference implementation, they will be considered technically compliant. The organization founded in America’s Heartland doesn't set for the privacy or sharing policies rather it supports clear understandings with stakeholders and the technical platform to support those agreed practices.

The OADA API is intended to serve as a specification for all providers that desire to be OADA compliant. This API does not attempt to define or enforce a single industry data standard. The goal of this API is to enable interoperability between the many precision Ag software systems and existing industry data types. By providing an extensible API that focuses on information exchange and facilitates data transformations an open heterogeneous environment that supports many legacy, current, and future data formats can be embraced. More information about OADA can be found at http://openag.io.
