Synopsis: Sworn to secrecy and torn with guilt, a woman desperately searches for a young girl she just rescued days before.

Kathleen Stephens lived in Dallas, Texas when she met Tom Talbert who was there on business. After a whirlwind romance, they marry and move back to his hometown of Millaine, North Carolina.

One day while driving home, Kathleen finds a girl hiding along the roadside. She fears for their lives when without warning, the girl’s assailant comes running out of the woods and chases them, but they manage to escape. Later, her husband’s strange behavior makes her suspect he may have something to do with the girl’s assault. Kathleen’s biggest surprise comes later when she discovers her husband’s sordid past. Suspicions and circumstance leave Kathleen no choice but to don the mask of lies and become a woman of deceit. Her plan is to play the part of a loving wife until she can safely escape with the girl. However, things don’t go as planned, and Kathleen’s worst nightmare begins. In order to protect the girl, Kathleen hides her in the attic. She ultimately grows fond of the girl, loving her as if she were her own daughter. Her world unravels when the girl vanishes without a trace as if she never existed. That same day, her husband leaves town without disclosing his whereabouts. Kathleen frantically searches for the girl and in desperation, she turns to her husband’s best friend for help, only to discover he has an agenda of his own. In the meantime, a quirky detective tracks a five-state felon to the little town of Millaine. The investigation leads him to unlock a wealthy family’s closet of lies, deceit, and murder.

“With a gift for sculpting multidimensional characters and a superb story filled with breathtaking turns of events, author and master wordsmith Dianne Hardman has created a story on par with the works of James Patterson and Michael Bennett,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing LLC. “Mask of Lies represents the best of the current market—a captivating plot woven from finely placed threads.”
