Follow on Google News | "Husk" by David Namhon Kim at Yellow PerilImmersive installation and series of sculptural works that arise simultaneously out of biological and digital processes
Often founded upon interspecies collaboration, David Namhon Kim’s practice is deeply research based and informed by backgrounds in the disciplines of biological science, new media, and fine art. “As a creative practitioner that works with living and digital media, I grapple with what it means to have an interdisciplinary practice that engages art, biology, and technology, and with whether disciplinary distinctions are of value,” he notes. Continuing the trajectory of his recent work, Kim plans to utilize sculptural and digital elements while collaborating with small nonhuman species to create a dynamic living installation for “Husk” at Yellow Peril. “The immersive aspect of the installation will draw viewers in,” he says, “while the biophilic qualities of living elements will contribute to engagement.” The opening reception for “Husk” is Saturday, February 14, from 6PM – 9PM. The exhibition will be on display until Friday, March 20, 2015. This is Kim’s first solo exhibition at Yellow Peril Gallery.
