Dr. James Orr Appointed Chair of the Florida Board of Medicine

 
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Jan. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Medical Director of Florida Gynecologic Oncology, a division of 21st Century Oncology, James Orr, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., F.A.C.S., has been appointed to serve as the Chair of the Florida Board of Medicine.

In this role, Dr. Orr will direct the actions of the board, ensuring the Florida Board of Medicine’s goal of ensuring that the 68,000 Florida physicians continue to maintain their practice of quality medicine. Through efficient and dedicated organization, Dr. Orr will lead the organization’s initiatives to license, monitor, discipline, educate and rehabilitate physicians in order to better serve patients in Florida.

“Dr. Orr has always shown an ongoing compassion toward the field and a devotion to clinical research, and he is very deserving of this tremendous honor,” says Constantine A. Mantz, M.D., Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and 21st Century Oncology’s Chief Medical Officer. “Having him serve as the Chair for the Florida Board of Medicine will allow him to endeavor to bring his high quality standards of care throughout the state.”

Dr. Orr has been certified by the American Board of Obstetrics since 1983, and earned a subspecialty Certification in Gynecologic Oncology shortly after in 1984. Dr. Orr has served on the Florida Board of Medicine since 2010, and most recently served as the board’s Vice Chair in 2013.

Dr. Orr received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, School of Medicine. He went on to complete his internship, residency and fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Since then, Dr. Orr has published more than 120 peer reviewed articles, four textbooks, and 33 chapters to scientific textbooks, as well as served as the Associate Editor of Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Previously, Dr. Orr served as President of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the Florida Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and the Florida Obstetrical and Gynecologic Society. He received the Saks Fifth Avenue Humanitarian Award for his compassionate efforts in Gynecologic Oncology, as well as the “Best Doctors for Women” distinction from Good Housekeeping magazine.

“As Chair of the Florida Board of Medicine, I look forward to improving communication between the Board and the physicians in Florida, in an effort to ensure that every physician in Florida meets the requirements for a safe practice,” said Dr. Orr. “My goal is to educate more physicians to assure their capability in the service of the people of Florida.”
