OXFORD, U.K. - Jan. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- From 1st January 2015 a strict set of regulations issued by the European Commision were put into action. These guidelines meant that it was illegal to operate or service an air conditioning unit that used R22 refrigerant gas.

R22 is a greenhouse gas and it is incredibly harmful to the environment as it produces high levels of UV pollution and therefore weakens the ozone layer. The thinning of the ozone layer can be detrimental, according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP):

“It can lead to a variety of disastrous effects, including an increase in skin cancers and eye cataracts, weakened immune systems, reduced plant and fishing yields, damage to ocean ecosystems, adverse effects on animals and an accelerated breakdown of certain materials in outside environments”

Therefore beginning the phase out has been very important but it has not been an easy process as the refrigerant gases contain Hydrocarbons which have additional hazards and therefore only specialist engineers are allowed to implement the removal process.

Oxford Air Conditioning employ highly trained professionals to remove the hazardous gas and help ensure that businesses meets the new set of guidelines. They have worked with a number of businesses across Oxfordshire during the R22 phase out stage. During this process they have successfully replaced the old systems with new, modern and more efficient pieces of equipment.

Before the ban came into action, Robert Wilkins, Vice President of Public Affairs at Danfoss, stated:

“I expect that a faster phase down would encourage increased recovery, reclaim, and recycling, which would help reduce emissions”

As the phase down became more urgent it was no surprise that there was a greater demand for skilled engineers to replace the affected air conditioning systems.

If companies do not comply with these new laws then the business could face large fines or the site may be closed.
