Redzone Wireless Awarded Long Term Exclusive EBS Spectrum Contract from the University of Maine

CAMDEN, Maine - Jan. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- Redzone Wireless, LLC, a Maine-based wireless Internet service provider (WISP), has entered into an exclusive 30-year contract agreement with the University of Maine System (UMS) to utilize the Educational Broadband Service (EBS) Spectrum granted to Maine’s Universities by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The FCC allocates licenses to premium EBS Spectrum for transmission within the range of 2495-2690 MHz to public Universities in each state for the purpose of promoting educational media distribution.  The FCC further allows these institutions to lease their EBS Spectrum and enter commercial partnerships to benefit the public education system.

This new contract, subject to final FCC approval, grants Redzone the exclusive right to operate a high-speed wireless Internet network on Maine’s EBS Spectrum through 2043.  Under the terms of the agreement, Redzone will also extend broadband network coverage to university locations in Maine.

Redzone Wireless intends to begin operating a 4G LTE Advanced wireless broadband network on the licensed EBS Spectrum during the first quarter of 2015, pending final FCC approval, which is expected during the month of January.

Residential & business customers in selected Maine areas will also be able to sign up for broadband service on the new company website in the first quarter at http://www.redzonewireless.com.
