Meet Lisa Graves- New England blogger, illustrator, author, and history buff

Author and Illustrator Lisa Graves was born and raised in western Norfolk County, Massachusetts, in the small, historic town of Millis.

At an early age, Lisa found herself drawn to both artistic craftsmanship and Norfolk County’s rich regional history. Lisa’s father owned a sign shop, and as a child she would spend every hour she could within its walls, nestled in a corner and expressing with color and craft. Many of those expressions involved depictions of Millis’ storied past – from the skirmishes of King Phillip’s War to the magic of its once bustling mill industry.

In 2010, after fifteen years spent illustrating strictly for corporate and retail clients, Lisa decided to combine her passion for both art and history once again by launching History Witch, a weekly series dedicated to fascinating stories and portraits of both well-known and forgotten women. Featured ‘witches’ have included saints, queens, explorers, and yes… a scattering of witches. With each new edition, the series’ popularity grew, and to date, its Facebook Fan page has a reach of over 12,000 with over 4600 devoted followers.

The artistry on display in History Witch drew the attention of Xist Publishing who collaborated with Lisa to develop Women in History, a series of elementary school books for girls focused on women’s contributions throughout history.  The third book in the series, Her Majesty: An Illustrated Guide to Women Who Ruled the World, is set for release on February 17^th, and a fourth book is in the works. In the fall of 2015, Lisa will also be releasing a fully illustrated, adult-level book featuring locations and portraits pertinent to the Tudor Dynasty that she developed with Barb Alexander, the world-renowned ‘Tudor Tutor’.

Over the past year, Lisa has been commissioned to design and illustrate the cover ofSalem Haunted Happenings, was featured at the House of Seven Gables, and given several lectures and workshops across New England.

Lisa currently resides in Medway with her family in a home built in 1852 by the Reverend Caleb Kimball, who like Lisa, also wrote and published literature. Lisa attributes the frequent ‘paranormal oddities’ that occur at her address to the fact that sometimes the departed Reverend gets rather uncomfortable with her subject matter, which he considers rather scandalous.
