"The Time of the Preacher" - Western Pits a Reformed Man Against a Criminal

HOUSTON - Jan. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- The Time of the Preacher is a Western, but unlike any other Western. The story opens in 1889 in Denver, Colorado, as the main characters are introduced with their life stories told in flashback.

The Preacher, Brian McFee, is from Dublin, Ireland, where as a young boy he was kidnapped at dockside and pressed into service as a cabin boy. He comes of age at sea. His life changes during the American Civil War when he is engaged in smuggling cotton past the Union naval blockade. Captured, he is mistaken for a rebel and placed in a Yankee POW camp. There McFee meets and befriends a guard, Charles “Stony” Stoneham.

After the war, he and Stony seek their fortune in the West. Unable to find their rainbow’s end through legitimate pursuits, they become outlaws. Jailed for their deeds, McFee and Stony are sent to prison in the New Mexico territory. While working as a chaplain’s assistant, McFee has a conversion, is given a pardon, and leaves prison to become a circuit riding minister.

Stony, having had no such change of heart, is left to languish in jail and harbor a growing hatred for his former partner. As the years go by, McFee settles into the solitary life of riding the roads, bringing God’s word to miners, ranchers, and far-flung settlers. But his greatest challenge, the person he most needs to save, is himself.

Meanwhile, after years of hard labor, Stony manages to escape prison, and now the battle really begins.
