As a reminder that progress continues in the 4th Ward, on Thursday Alderman Will Burns joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Alderman Pat Dowell and Bob Mariano, chairman and CEO of Roundy’s, Inc., at a ground breaking ceremony for the newest Mariano’s grocery store at the intersection of 39th Street and King Drive in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. The development is a joint venture that includes African American investors and the store design is by an African American architect. It is the first Mariano’s to break ground on the south side and 40% of construction contracts to build the store will go to African American owned business enterprises, creating over 200 construction- Sunday, January 11, Burns hosted the opening of his campaign office at 900 E. 47th Street where more than 100 supporters, volunteers and community residents attended the event and joined the Alderman in making calls to other potential campaign supporters. Among those in attendance were Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, State Representative Christian L. Mitchell (D - 26th District) and former 4th Ward Alderman Shirley Newsome.
