Follow on Google News | World-Renowned Taylor 2 Dance Company to Perform at AUPAC on February 13 and 20Famed dance troupe to perform a combination of classics and recent masterworks
By: Adelphi University The six members of the Taylor 2 dance troupe will also be in residence at Adelphi for three weeks in February, working with the university’s dance students and carrying on the modern dance legacy of Paul Taylor, one of the pioneers of modern dance. The Taylor/Adelphi history reaches back six decades, with Paul Taylor teaching at Adelphi in the early 60’s. Current Adelphi faculty member and well-known choreographer Orion Duckstein was also a former member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1999 to 2010. By passing on Paul Taylor’s distinct movement style and rich legacy, Orion Duckstein challenges his students to learn from the great minds of the past and go beyond them. Paul Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure his works could be seen by audiences all over the world, unhindered by economic or technical limitations. He worked alongside longtime colleague Linda Hodes to create a company that could accommodate performance requests, as well as teach and provide community outreach. Paul Taylor looked back to the 1954 origins of the Paul Taylor Dance Company for the structure of Taylor 2: six professionals with a gift for his style who would perform his works throughout the world. Paul Taylor’s choreography is noted for its physicality and grace, as well as its cultural relevance. In selecting repertoire for Taylor 2, he chooses dances that span the broad spectrum of his work. Several of the dances performed by Taylor 2 have been reworked from the Paul Taylor Dance Company’s version to enable the smaller ensemble of dancers to perform them. Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center is one of Long Island’s premier cultural arts venues for entertainment of all kinds. Tickets for the Taylor 2 performances are on sale now and are priced at $35 with discounts available to seniors, students and alumni.
