BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Jan. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has finally allowed the use of drones in the agriculture and real estate sectors. This is for the first time that companies in these two industries have been permitted to use drones. The FAA has till date received around 214 requests from several commercial entities, and only 12 exemptions to companies in the oil and gas; film making and landfill sectors had been made. A statement released by the FAA mentioned exemptions to the ban on commercial drones for Advanced Aviation Solutions in Spokane, Wash., for “crop scouting,” and to Douglas Trudeau of Tierra Antigua Realty in Tucson, Ariz., for enhanced aerial footage of buildings

The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) a.k.a drones to assist farmers manage their crops is still in the nascent stage, though the technology has gained a lot of traction and investment alike. The application of these data drones is only limited by our imagination, with even the military and big retail chains envisioning using these drones for surveillance and delivery of goods respectively.

The latest report from BIS Research encompasses all the latest developments in drone technology, analyzing the feasibility of its usage in the agricultural sector and applications that it can be used for. Drones, just like other Precision Farming techniques are a tool that allow farmers to better manage their fields and resources. The report further elaborates on techniques such as Yield and Soil Monitoring, Variable Rate Application, Crop Scouting, Precision Irrigation among many others.

The need for Precision Farming is indisputable; owing to the burgeoning population and endangered concept of food security. The industry has tremendous scope of growth as studied by researchers at BIS and the report elucidates all such opportunities.

The Precision Agriculture techniques have been readily taken up by farmers in the Americas. This region accounts for more than 50 percent of market share for the year 2014. Though in the near future, the Asia Pacific region is expected to grow at the highest rate, at a CAGR of 18.29%. A detailed study for market behavior in these regions including Europe, APAC, Africa and the Middle East is included in the report.

The competitive landscape segment is a thorough breakdown of the financials, key developments and SWOT analysis for each of the 18 companies under study. The challenges that plague the sector probe issues such as the absence of dedicated education on Precision Farming, the lack of standardization of data systems and feasibility of drones among other points.
