SAN DIEGO - Jan. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- Ignite San Diego returns! The next Ignite San Diego is  Thurs., Feb. 26, 2015 at the Downtown Central Library Auditorium from 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

What is Ignite San Diego? Sponsored by Mojo Marketing, Blue Lava Studio and 3rdSpace, Ignite San Diego is a firestorm of on-site geekery, idea sharing, creativity and gabbing where a rapid-fire series of innovative talks is unleashed. The talks are five minutes long with 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. The event also interweaves live local music and craft beer.

Speaker submissions are open now through January 23 at midnight, and interested parties can submit talk ideas at http://www.ignitesandiego.org/speak.

The submission process takes only a few minutes and selected talks will be announced the following week.

This is the fourth Ignite San Diego event, and previous events were hosted in connection with SD Tech Week. The last event took place in July of 2013.

“We are so excited to revive Ignite San Diego and open up submissions to a wider audience,” said Angela Leavitt, one of Ignite San Diego’s organizers. "This event is the ultimate local melting pot of ideas, and sets the stage for serendipity to happen among speakers, volunteers and attendees.”

What types of topics are presented at Ignite San Diego?

“The only requirement for giving an Ignite talk is passion,” said Kristina Eastham, another Ignite San Diego organizer.  “You don’t have to be an expert in your field or famous for your topic – you just need to exude enthusiasm for it.”

Most topics tend to explore causes, hobbies, or ideas, while sales or business pitches are not allowed. Those whose passions tend to be bizarre, funny or controversial are highly encouraged to submit – just keep it PG-13.

Participating speakers will also be available at designated tables immediately after the event to intermingle further with attendees. This allows the audience members to gather more information on the topics that most interest them, and it creates a structure for Ignite participants to engage with community members outside their direct network.

About Ignite Organizers

Angela Leavitt
is the founder and managing partner of Mojo Marketing, a digital and content marketing firm she started in 2010. A telecom industry veteran and accomplished Toastmaster, she has a long history of speaking at trade shows and events.

She first discovered Ignite in 2010, and was instantly hooked. She participated in Ignite Phoenix #10 as a speaker, and has been instrumental in "resurrecting" Ignite San Diego since she relocated here in 2013.

Kristina Eastham is a digital communications and content marketing professional, currently spearheading social media at Am Law 100 law firm Mintz Levin. Prior to Mintz Levin, Kristina was a digital strategist and communications manager at global marketing agency Digitaria. She spoke at SXSW twice (2013 and 2014) on technology, language and digital content.

She discovered Ignite while serving a 5-month mid-winter sentence in Digitaria's Minneapolis office and instantly wanted to be part of building the same thriving community experience in her hometown.

Jennifer Newell is the Marketing Representative for Business Programs at UC San Diego Extension. She previously worked Microsoft and Nokia and consulted for various mobile app and entrepreneurship startups. Jen attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and earned a B.S. in Journalism.

Her first Ignite talk was in Boulder and she discussed her college job at a safe ride service in "Confessions of a Night Rider." Her second talk was entitled "Bork, Bork, Bork: Swedish 101 for Foreigners" and people still remind her to this day that she taught them inappropriate words in Swedish. Jen also helps organize Startup Weekend San Diego, March Mingle, and other local events along the lines of startups and entrepreneurship.
