By: Black Women's Roundtable "We are launching the BWR Empowerment Project on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday in honor of his legacy which focused on economic justice and service to others." says Melanie Campbell, convener of the BWR and president and CEO of The National Coalition. "This project will serve as a foundation for our current work to address systemic, structural and cultural barriers faced by black women in achieving economic security, prosperity and retirement security," said Campbell. The project will include a series of regional economic and social justice empowerment summits, health and wellness mini-expos, webinars, listening sessions and issue organizing activities. Pilot cities include: BWR project director and senior technology policy advisor, Joycelyn Tate, will manage and provide strategic support for the project. "We want to equip women and girls with the tools they need to build a better quality of life for themselves, their families and communities as well as for future generations," The BWR Empowerment Project will host its first monthly entrepreneurship webinar on February 18th , a #SistersofSelma Economic Empowerment Summit in Selma, AL to commemorate the 50thAnniversary of Bloody Sunday on Saturday, March 7th as well as events during the Fourth Annual Women of Power National Summit March 26 - 28th during Women's History Month in Washington, DC. The Black Women's Roundtable (BWR) is the women and girls empowerment arm of The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation. The BWR promotes health and wellness, economic security and sustainability, education and global empowerment. BWR established its Intergenerational Policy Network in 2008, which is comprised of a diverse group of Black women civic leaders representing international, national, regional, and state-based organizations and institutions.
