TORONTO - Jan. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- The end of Windows 7 support has been executed by Microsoft and they will no longer offer free tech support for the very popular operating system.

Unfortunately for organizations and individuals, January 13th, 2015 is the official cut-off date for free tech support for Windows 7.  Windows 7 will still work as usual however no new features will be added by Microsoft.

Windows 8 has not been a tremendous success for Microsoft however you have the option to move to Windows 8 or wait for Windows 10 that will be launching later this year.  Windows 7 launched back in 2009 and has been very popular thanks to its unstable stable predecessor, Windows Vista, or the redesigned and highly unpopular Windows 8.

So what do Windows 7 users do now for tech support?

Windows 7 has moved from mainstream support to extended support only.  This means that Microsoft will charge for tech support help with the operating system.  In 2020, Microsoft will end Windows 7 extended support for good.

The good news for companies without proper IT support services is that Microsoft will continue to issue security updates and patches so computers will not become immediately vulnerable to hackers targeting the software.
