The Meadows School Upper School Students Take Home Top Honors at Scholastic Art Awards

LAUGHLIN, Nev. - Jan. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- The Meadows School (TMS) is proud to announce that three of its upper school students are Scholastic Art Award recipients.12th grader, Bridgette Choi, and 11th graders, Akosua Sarfo and Jaye Straus, competed against 7-12 grade students in the Southern Nevada region and took home top honors. Founded in 1923, Scholastic Art Awards is the oldest, longest running and most prestigious recognition program for student achievement in the visual arts and creative writing in the United States. Springs Preserve and Alliance for Young Artists will host the award ceremony on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.

The students have been selected for Honorable Mention, Silver Key or Gold Key awards in their respective mediums, which they will receive at the ceremony. Gold Key winners are submitted for the national awards competition and will have their artwork on display in a winner’s exhibition at the Big Springs Gallery inside Springs Preserve, Jan. 31 through March 1.

“We’re so proud of our students for excelling both academically and artistically,” said Jeremy Gregersen, head of school at TMS. “At The Meadows School, we value artistic creativity in partnership with academic prowess to create a well-rounded educational experience.”

On Wednesday, Jan. 28, TMS will host its Fifth Annual All-School Festival of Art at 6 p.m. in the Wanda Lamb Peccole Center for the Arts Gallery on the TMS campus. Coordinated by middle and upper school art teacher, Rachel Martin, the art festival is open to all pre-K through 12th grade TMS students. Each year, the event is judged by an alum currently working in the local arts community. This year’s event will be judged by Jessica Marshall (TMS ’04), owner of Miss Daisy floral shop in Las Vegas. Marshall will award first, second, third and honorable mention ribbons to each grade level.
