WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Jan. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- West Hollywood, January 5th, 2015--- ---Christopher Guy’s sumptuous West Hollywood showroom, 8900 Beverly Blvd, was the setting for the West Coast première on Saturday, December 13th, 2014 of an edgy and innovative production by (LA-based) The Laboratory Arts Collective of a short play, ‘Mom’s Room,’ by Berlin film auteur Miriam Dehne.  The play, directed by Dehne herself, is based on the work of New York artist Marilyn Minter and depicts her struggle with her once-glamorous but now addicted and self-absorbed mother, bravely portrayed by British-American actress Suzan Crowley (‘The Devil Inside’).  Marilyn Minter was played by another Hollywood-based British actress, Cerris Morgan-Moyer.

The recipient of a Guggenheim Creative Arts Fellowship, Minter’s own work has been seen on high definition digital billboards in Times Square – New York City, and Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.  Her earliest student black-and-white series, from 1969, featured pictures of her (by then) drug-addicted, narcissistic and reclusive mother, and provided the starting point for the 30-minute play based on the ritualized seclusion of her mother’s final days, almost always wearing a nightgown, in the exclusive Coral Ridge Towers, Fort Lauderdale, Florida—not unlike the character of Norma Desmond in Billy Wilder’s classic film, Sunset Boulevard.  Marilyn Minter’s entire career has focused in depth on what New York Times art critic Holland Cotter called ‘the pathology of glamor.’

The stunningly luxurious furnishings in Christopher Guy’s Hollywood showroom provided the ideal backdrop for the moving and witty play, with chilled champagne served by a white-gloved butler for the audience of 150 people, who found it an unforgettable experience.

The Laboratory Arts Collective is founded by former BAFTA-LA Chairman Nigel Daly, who was recently awarded the OBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, together with his partner—writer and producer Louise Salter, who serves as The Laboratory Arts Collective’s Creative Director.  “Louise and I search out the diverse and exceptional,” Daly said, “and our collaborations bring unique experiences to those with an interest in artistic innovation.  Our creative partnership with Christopher Guy is forging an exciting marriage of branded product and art to create a dynamic live experience.”  Another joint production is tentatively scheduled for March, 2015 at Christopher Guy’s Manhattan showroom.
